In the historic center of Prague (Staré Mesto)
Staré Mesto district, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is Prague’s historic center.
Located along the river, it’s the most picturesque and touristic area of the city with its narrow cobbled streets, pretty houses with colorful facades, and historic buildings.
Of course, you will also find numerous bars and restaurants there!
For me, it’s the best area to stay in Prague.
I recommend this district for a stay in Prague:
- If you want to be in the heart of the city while being able to easily reach other districts by foot or public transport
- To be close to the city’s must-see attractions
- To go out at night
- For a romantic weekend in Prague.
The district is the ideal place to discover:
- Old Town Square: the emblematic main square of Prague is surrounded by magnificent buildings
- The Astronomical Clock that comes to life every hour with the procession of the 12 apostles. It’s located on the facade of the town hall.
- Church of Our Lady before Týn dating from the 14th century
- Prague’s Powder Tower, offering a superb panoramic view of the entire city
- The synagogues of Josefov and the Jewish cemetery
- St. Nicholas Church, an iconic baroque-style church
- The National Gallery Prague and its collection of artwork ranging from antiquity to the 21st century.
The most beautiful hotels to stay in the Old Town of Prague
- Old Prague Hotel: Located in a historic building, in the heart of the Old Town. Classic double rooms with wooden furniture and wallpaper starting at 90€, breakfast included. Strong points: the location, the warm welcome, the calm.

- Metropolitan Old Town Hotel – Czech Leading Hotels: Located 10 minutes walk from the Astronomical Clock. Warm and spacious double rooms starting at 180€, breakfast for 16€. Strong points: the rooftop view, the friendly staff, the quality of the breakfast.
- The President: 5-star hotel located by the river. It offers tastefully decorated rooms with views of Prague Castle starting at 200€, breakfast for 45€. Strong points: indoor pool, Spa, ideal location, delicious breakfast. The perfect hotel to stay for a romantic weekend in Prague!
- Allure Hotel & Residence Prague: Located 10 min from the Powder Tower. Elegant double rooms starting from 210€, breakfast for 20€. Strong points: the staff’s kindness, the hotel style, à la carte breakfast.
- Hotel KINGS COURT: Luxury hotel located in the historic center, 5 minutes walk from all the must-see attractions. Stay in cozy and exquisitely decorated rooms starting from 250€, breakfast for 20€. In Nové Mesto District
Nové Mesto is a fairly large district that runs along the entire eastern side of the Old Town.
It’s an excellent place to stay in Prague right next to the historic center.
And if you enjoy art and culture, the area is home to the city’s most famous museums as well as performance venues!
You’ll love this district if:
- You want to be close to the city center
- You’re planning to visit museums
- You’re interested in shopping
- You’re looking for a district that is quieter in the evening.
In Nové Mesto, you can visit:
- The National Museum, the most famous museum in Prague. Its interior architecture is simply stunning!
- The State Opera, hosting performances nearly every evening at very attractive prices
- The Museum of Communism, on the rise and fall of communism in the country.
- Wenceslas Square, one of the main squares in the city
- Na Příkopě Street, a pedestrian street lined with shops
- The Mucha Museum, dedicated to the famous Czech artist Alfons Mucha, a painter and decorative artist.
Best Accommodations to Stay in Nové Mesto (Prague)

In Mala Strana / Hrad District
Mala Strana and Hrad districts are located next to each other.
They are situated on the other side of the river from the historic center. You just need to cross one of the bridges to reach the Old Town.
These two districts are also very old and typical, but slightly less lively than the historic center, especially in the evening.
It’s an excellent choice if you’re wondering where to stay in Prague for a weekend near the old town.
I recommend Mala Strana or Hrad district to stay in Prague:
- To stay in the city center, without being right in the middle of the historic center
- To explore on foot or by public transport
- To experience local life in an authentic district.
Mala Strana / Hrad district re perfect to discover:
- Prague Castle: Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, it’s one of the largest medieval castles in the world
- The Castle park
- St. Vitus Cathedral, the city’s largest church
- The Golden Lane, a famous street with small houses from the 16th century
- St. Nicholas Church, in Mala Strana, featuring a beautiful Baroque interior
- The Lennon Wall and its numerous graffiti
- Petrin Tower offering a nice view over the city
- Charles Bridge, to get to the historic center.
Where to Stay in the Mala Strana / Hrad District, Prague

In Zizkov District
Zizkov lies to the east of the historical center, beyond Nové Mesto district.
It’s particularly known as the district to stay in Prague for partying!
With its numerous bars, clubs and restaurants, it’s the perfect spot to spend an evening out, or even party all night long!
You should consider this district:
- If you’re looking for a very lively and festive area
- For its hipster and trendy vibe
- For a trip to Prague with friends.
Best things to see in Zizkov:
- The Zizkov Television Tower, for its unusual architecture. It also houses an observatory offering one of the most beautiful views of Prague.
- Palac Akropolis, a cool club that hosts live concerts
- Karlin Forum, a concert hall
- The Army Museum, showcasing the military evolution with uniforms and weapons on display. It’s very interesting and free!
Here are my favorite hotels in Zizkov district
- Hotel Prokop Square: Located 5 mins from the Army Museum. Contemporary double room starting at 100€, breakfast at 15€. Strong points: very quiet, varied breakfast, close to trams and buses.
- Don Giovanni Hotel Prague – Great Hotels of The World: A 10-minute walk from the television tower. Very spacious double rooms from 150€, breakfast at 15€. Strong points: delicious breakfast, attentive staff, Michelin-starred restaurant, Spa. A high-end hotel at a friendly price!
