You’re planning to spend 2 weeks in Greece? You’re looking for the best itinerary?

Then look no further!

In order to help you plan your stay, I have prepared for you this 14, 15 or 16 days itinerary in Greece.

During your trip, you will visit Athens, the Peloponnese, Delphi, the Meteora as well as 2 islands of the Cyclades archipelago. This includes the world famous Santorini island as well as another one such as Amorgos, Naxos or Paros.

In addition to the must-see attractions for each stage of the itinerary, I will also give you all my best tips and accommodation suggestions depending on your budget.

So, how to spend two weeks in Greece?

Let’s find out!

1) Athens (2 days)

To visit Greece in 14-15 days, you should land in Athens.

It’s easy to get around Greece’s capital city on foot, but you will need a car for the rest of this 2 weeks in Greece itinerary.

You have 2 options:

  1. You can rent your car on your first day, so you won’t have to go back to the airport to pick it up.
  2. You can also rent it on the 3rd day, to save 2 days on your rental.

In any case, if you want to rent a car in Greece, you should use Booking.com Cars website.

It’s simply the most user-friendly rental cars prices comparison website. It allows you to compare prices of all rental agencies in just 1 click! You can then rent your car at the best price guaranteed.

And to be fully refunded in case of accident or theft, don’t forget to select the Full Protection Insurance. (Tested and approved! They refunded me more than 1200 euros in total)

From the airport, go to your hotel in Athens. You can use your car (if you already have rent one), or choose one of the 4 other options to go to the city centre:

  • By taxi: 40€
  • By bus: the line X95 goes directly to Syntagma Square, Athens’ main square.
  • By metro: the line 3 (the blue one) is the fastest option!
  • Using your hotel airport shuttle service.

During your first day in Athens you will visit (in order):

  • The Acropolis Museum to learn more about the archaeological site and enjoy the view on the Parthenon from its panoramic terrace. Directly get a skip-the-line ticket here!

On your 3rd and last day in Naxos, you can have a boat trip, it includes visits and swimming! Snorkeling equipment is also included in the price.

After this last amazing day, your 14-15-16 days trip to Greece is now over! You can now read the 10th chapter of this guide “Going back to Athens or Santorini” for the last practical details.

If you want to know more about Naxos, you should read my detailed artcicle: Visit Naxos: the definitive guide.

Option 3: Paros (3 days)

The last option for this 2 weeks itinerary in Greece is to visit the island of Paros. It will take you between 2 and 3 hours to go from Santorini to Paros, depending on the ferry company.

For your 1st day, visit the Nothern part of the island:

  • Discover Parikia, the capital city, and its old town. Don’t miss Panagia Ekatontapyliani byzantine church.
  • Drive to Paros park, in the north of the island. There, you can walk for about 2 hours on the 3 marked trails.
  • After your short hike, you can go to the beach nearby and relax!
  • Then, visit Naoussa, the luxury seaside resort of Paros, with its trendy bars and shops.
  • End your day at the beach. I recommend you Siparos Beach, Stefano Beach, Lageri Beach, Santa Maria Beach or Kolymbithres.

The next day, take your car to explore the Southern part of the island this time:

  • Visit 3 typical and picturesque villages: Lefkes, Prodromos and Marpissa.
  • Take your lunch break at the Port of Piso Livadi with fresh grilled fish.
  • Spend your afternoon at the Golden Beach, the Logaras Beach or Faragas Beach.

And for your last day in Paros, how about a boat trip around the island and Antiparos?

You will have the choice between a half-day and a full-day trip with some time to swim. It costs between 40 and 100€ per person, depending on the excursion you choose!

After this great boat trip, it will unfortunately already be the end of your trip to Greece.

To plan your 3 days stay in Paros, you should read my detailed travel guide about the island: The 10 best things to do in Paros.

Where to stay in Paros

In Paros, you will find most of the accommodations around Parikia (that’s convenient, because its where the ferries arrive), or in Naoussa, the island’s main seaside resort.

You will find here a selection of the best places to stay in Parikia and Naoussa.

Best hotels in Parikia

10) Going back to Athens or Santorini (1 day)

You will have several choices to organize your return from Amorgos, Naxos or Paros.

  • Take a ferry back to Santorini, then fly home directly. Depending on your flight’s departure time, you might have to leave the day before!
  • Take a ferry to Athens, then go to the airport. You might also have to leave the Cyclades at the end of the day before, to be sure you won’t miss your flight.
  • From Naxos and Paros, you can fly to Athens (only 40 minutes!) then take another flight to go back home.

Voyage Tips - Advice

If you are doing a 14 days itinerary in Greece, spend only 2 days in Naxos, Amorgos or Paros.

If you are having a 16 days trip to Greece, you can add 1 day in Athens. There, you can enjoy a 1-day cruise to the Saronic Islands. You can also add a day in Santorini, or in another Greek island!

Hi, I really enjoyed your website and itinerary and hotel advice.

My only concern is only staying 1 night all throughout the Peloponesse-did you feel too rushed?

I’m planning almost the exact trip but from Delphi I might go to Meteora and then back to Athens for a flight to Santorini (partially so my husband can see Thermopylae (we know there’s not much there but a quick stop at the statue and to set foot there will be enough).
That being said…is that going to make the trip to Meteora even worth it?
I mean it looks stunning and we’ll be relaxing somewhat more on Santorini and Naxos afterwards for the 6 nights after that but just worried between the drive from Delphi to Meteora and then back to Athens the next day will be too much.

    Would love your thoughts.
    Thank you.

      Hello Erin,

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy my articles about Greece.

If you want to visit Peloponnese, it’s maybe a bit of a rush, but you don’t have much choice. It’s a big part of Greece and all the best places to visit are scattered all over the region.

It’s the only way to see all the must-see attractions, but don’t worry, you won’t have to wake up too early or anything. It’s just that you need to change hotel each night and do a bit of driving. It’s still extremely enjoyable!

For Meteora, it’s 3 hours driving from Delphi and then 4 hours to go back to Athens. I think it will be a bit too much, but it’s up to you.

That’s why in this itinerary, I recommend to go to Thessaloniki to take the plane to Santorini, as it’s only at 2h40 by car from the Meteora. In your case, it’s not possible to do it that way?

Enjoy your 2 weeks trip to Greece, and don’t hesitate if you have other questions!

    Hi Vincent,

Thank you so much for your quick response. I appreciate the feedback and am now thinking that we will hit Thermopylae actually on the way from Delphi to Meteora since it’s really not out of the way. Also, we’ll fly from Thessaloniki to Santorini rather than driving back to Athens like you suggest so I think that will be much easier. I’m glad to hear it’s still enjoyable and thankfully the distances aren’t that long in between places for the most part. Also, do you think 3 nights each on Santorini (staying in the Tholos community of Oia) and Naxos is a good combo for island time in mid-October?

    Thanks again!

    Erin

      Hello Erin,

      That’s perfect then!

Yes, 3 days in Santorini and 3 days in Naxos will be the best to enjoy both islands. If you rent a car there, you will have the time to do everything I talk about in this article and take some time to relax at the beach in Naxos.

      Enjoy your trip to Greece!

We will be 2 couples and have the same question as above but will be traveling at the beginning of November. What can we expect water and air temperatures to be? Will all tourist activities be open? …Thanks,Denis

    • Vincent
      Vincent

      Hello Denis,

In November, you will have no problem doing the first part of this 2 weeks itinerary in Greece.
From Athens (step 1) to Thessaloniki (step 7), all sites will be open.

The climate is pleasant with an average of 18°, except for Meteora and Thessaloniki where it will be a bit cooler.

For the Cyclades, the average temperature is 19° but there is a lot of wind and you may have a few days of rain.
The water will also be too cold to swim.

An important note: in the Cyclades, the season ends in October, so there will be fewer ferries and some hotels and restaurants will be closed.

For activities, there are usually no boat trips at this time of year.

Enjoy your 2 weeks stay in Greece!

      Hello William,

The budget for this 2 week itinerary in Greece can vary from simple to triple or more depending on the period, the type of accommodation and the activities/visits you want to do.

You can easily calculate how much it would cost for your travel dates by clicking on the orange links or the green buttons in the article.
For example if you click on the Booking Cars button you can see how much a rental car costs.
If you click on the name of the hotels, you will also see the rate they charge.

For the archaeological sites (Epidaurus, Mycenae, Olympia, Delphi etc.) the entrance fee is around 12€ for each.
And for other activities such as boat trips to Santorini for example, you can also see the rates by clicking on the green buttons in the article.

That will be the best way to be able to check how much your trip would cost! As it’s really impossible to give a generic estimate, considering everyone’s trip will be unique.

Have a nice trip to Greece!

  4. James

My family of four (2 kids at age 11 and 13) plan to spend last two weeks in December, would you recommend the same itinerary? Thank you.

    • Vincent
      Vincent

      Hello James,

For this 2 weeks itinerary in Greece in December, you can follow all the steps until Thessaloniki.
But if you want to visit on December 24, 25 and 26, you will have to pay attention to the opening hours which may be different.
Some sites may also be closed (especially on the 25th).

On the other hand, for the second part in the Cyclades, it will not really be possible.
In winter, most hotels are closed as well as restaurants and stores. There is really nothing to do.
And the ferries between the islands do not run anymore or very rarely.

The best is to add a few days in mainland Greece.
For the islands, it is better to visit them between May and October.

      Enjoy your stay in Greece!

  5. Delana

Hi! Wondering what airline you flew from Thessaloniki to Santorini- was it direct or with a layover in Athens. We are going at the beginning of May.

    • Vincent
      Vincent

      Hello Delana,

In May, there are direct flights between Thessaloniki and Santorini on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays with Volotea airline.

On the other days of the week, there are also flights but with a stopover in Athens. There are several companies that do this: Aegan, Olympic, Sky Express, Ryanair.

I advise you to look at all the flights available on Skyscanner

Enjoy your trip to Greece and the Cyclades!

  6. Mauricio

    Hello!

This guide has been amazing. I´m planning a similar trip and you have helped me a lot!

I´m just having a bit of trouble finding a Car Rental company that does not charge me for dropping off the car at a different location than the pick-up.

Do you have any advice to try to avoid that extra cost?

    Thanks for everything.

    • Vincent
      Vincent

      Hello Mauricio,

Thank you very much! I’m glad that my 2 weeks itinerary in Greece helps you to prepare your trip.

Can you give me the exact dates for your car rental? Do you want to rent it in Athens and return it in Thessaloniki as well?
      I can look into it.

      Thank you.

  7. Tina Johann

Hello, I have a question about car rentals on the Cyclades islands. Do I rent and return one at each island, and not take the same one with me on the ferry with a drop off in another island or Athens?

Also I’m flipping your itinerary doing Naxos and Santorini first and not going all the way to Thessaloniki.

The car rental is what I can’t quite figure out. I don’t want one on Athens. Is it possible to wait to rent the car in Santorini and take it from there back to Athens airport ? Or rent different ones each island. Do the ferries go to the Pellopennese?

    • Vincent
      Vincent

      Hello Johann,

It’s not allowed to take the ferry with a rental car.
You will have to rent a car on each island.

      Enjoy your trip in Greece!

  8. Amy

    Hello.

I used this itinerary to plan our 2 week vacation for our family of three to celebrate our son’s 21st birthday. We followed this exactly up until we left Kastriki. We decided to drive back to Athens and fly to Crete. I did all the driving and we didn’t mind the long drive back to Athens We stayed at hotels you recommended and saw most of the sites you mentioned.

All three of us agree, this was the best vacation EVER. We can honestly saw we saw Greece, not just Athens. We told a waiter in Athens what we were visiting and he said “Now, that’s how you see Greece” and said it was one of the best itineraries he has ever heard. Your advice was spot on and we loved every moment of it. We had some interresting drives since Waze and Google Maps liked to take us off the beaten path but we have wonderful memories from those drives too.

For anyone that is concerned about the amount of driving and moving hotels every night, we didn’t find it too much. There was never a day when we felt like we were always driving. There were some nights we didn’t want to bring our suitcase into the hotel so we just packed a change of clothes in our backpacks.

Thank you for taking the time to write in detail about this itinerary.

    • Vincent
      Vincent

Thank you so much Amy! It was very kind of you to take the time to write a comment.

I’m really glad you had a great holiday in Greece following my itinerary.
(And yes, Google maps didn’t take me along the best roads sometimes either, but as you say, that’s part of the journey).

Thanks again and maybe we’ll see you soon for another destination!

  9. Stephanie

Thank you so much for all this amazing information! I was wondering what your thoughts are of adding Crete and where would you add it to this itinerary?

    • Vincent
      Vincent

      Thank you, Stephanie.
You can add Crete to the beginning or end of this itinerary.
The easiest way would be to fly from Athens to Chania or Heraklion.
Depending on the season, there may also be flights to Crete from Santorini.

Crete is a beautiful island, and I loved my time there. However, I would advise you to spend at least a week there, as it’s a big place. And even then, you won’t have time to do everything.
You can find my articles on the island here if you want more information: Destination Crete.

      Enjoy your trip to Greece!

  10. Aman

Hi there! Thank you for this itinerary! Wondering where you would add Mykonos – I’d like to see that as well. We will have about 16 days

    Thanks!

    • Vincent
      Vincent

      Hello Aman,

      Thank you.
Glad my 2-week itinerary in Greece is helping you plan your trip.

You can go to Mykonos after Santorini, it’s the most convenient.

Enjoy your stay in Greece and the Cyclades!

  11. Laurie

Thanks for your work, research and advice Vincent.

We are hoping to go to Greece for 2 weeks in March (March school break). I know this isn’t high tourist season but are things still open?

Also, do you have any good resources for hiking in Greece? Sailing? Kayaking?

    Thanks again.

    • Vincent
      Vincent

      Hi Laurie,

Thank you! I’m glad that my 2-week itinerary in Greece is helping you plan your trip.
For mainland Greece, in March, the main sites will be open in Athens and the Peloponnese, no problem.

However, things are different for the Greek islands. Most hotels and restaurants do not reopen until late April/early May.

It’s also complicated to get there because there are very few ferries departing from Athens or running between the islands. And the few that are running can be cancelled as there are higher chances of stormy weather during winter than on the summer months.

At this time of year, you also can’t enjoy the watersports, as it’s too cold.

To be honest, from November to the end of March, the Greek islands aren’t really suited for tourism. Personnally, I would rather focus on mainland Greece.

Have a great day and enjoy your trip to Greece!
