In Nice Old Town (“Vieux Nice”)
Nice Old Town, called the “Vieux Nice” in French, is the historic center of the city.
With its pedestrian streets, bustling squares, and historic buildings, it’s the most touristic and famous district of Nice! There, you will mainly find the
Cours Saleya, with its food market taking place every morning (except on Mondays) and numerous cafés, pubs and restaurants with terraces. It’s the perfect place to have a drink or a meal, during the day or at night! While in the Old Town, you should also wander in the smaller streets, as they are full of small boutiques, art galleries and great local restaurants.
I recommend this area for your stay in Nice:
- To explore the city on foot
- To be close to all must-see attractions
- If you like vibrant neighborhoods
- To go out at night
- To immerse yourself in Nice’s history and culture.
Nice old town is the perfect place to discover:
- Cours Saleya: for the morning food market and to have a drink or meal at one of the cafés or restaurants
- Rossetti Square, where you will find the Cathédrale Sainte Reparate of Nice and the best ice creams (go to Azzurro!)
- The Palais Lascaris museum and its beautiful baroque apartments you can visit
- The Chapelle de la Miséricorde, located on Cours Saleya
- Castle Hill: A public park offering some of the best views over Nice and the surroundings

On the Promenade des Anglais (by the sea)
This world-famous 7km promenade runs from the Castle Hill (La colline du Château, in French) to Nice airport.
If you are coming to Nice for the first time, I strongly recommend you to at least walk on the part that goes from the old town of Nice to the Negresco hotel, passing through the Jardin Albert 1er and the Palais de la Méditerranée.
If you want to do the whole Promenade des Anglais, it’s best to rent a bike or rollerblades!
And even better than biking or rollerblading, you can also enjoy a Segway tour on the Promenade des Anglais!
This 2 hours guided tour will allow you to discover the famous Promenade as well as wander through the streets of the old town and go to the top of the Castle Hill.
