In Siam and Pratunam District
Siam district (and the nearby Pratunam district) is the downtown area of Thailand‘s capital.
It’s very dynamic and lively at all hours of the day and night. There you will find numerous small shops and plenty of restaurants.
Siam is also known for its huge, modern shopping centers where you can spend hours!
If you’re wondering where to stay in Bangkok’s city center, this is the perfect spot since you’ll be able to move around very easily by public transport and reach the most famous tourist attractions.
I recommend this district for accommodation in Bangkok:
- For its accessibility: it’s an excellent starting point for sightseeing, thanks to the Skytrain (the elevated metro) that serves the entire city
- For shopping
- If you’re looking for a lively place
- For a family stay in Bangkok.
The district is the perfect place to discover:
- The most famous shopping malls in the city: MBK, Siam Paragon, CentralWorld, Siam Square One, etc.
- Jim Thompson House, built from several sections of traditional wooden houses, dismantled and brought to Bangkok from Ayutthaya. Jim Thompson was an American businessman, art collector, and enthusiast of Thai silks.
- Lumphini Park, the largest green space in Bangkok
- Baiyoke Tower, one of Bangkok’s tallest skyscrapers. You can go to the rooftop terrace to admire the panoramic view of the city.
- The Bangkok Art & Culture Centre for contemporary art lovers

Strong points: Amazing atmosphere, attention to detail, delicious buffet, swimming pool, Spa. My favorite hotel for a luxury stay in Siam (Bangkok)!
In Silom and Sathorn District
Silom district is located south of Siam, bordering Lumphini Park.
It’s Bangkok’s business district.
There aren’t necessarily a lot of things to see during the day, but at night the whole area comes alive and transforms into one of the trendy spots for evening outings.
Here, you will find some of the most beautiful rooftop bars in the city as well as numerous restaurants and clubs.
This district is ideal for your stay in Bangkok:
- To party and enjoy Bangkok by night
- For a stay with friends or as a couple
- Because it’s very well served by the metro and the Skytrain.
Silom district is ideal for discovering:
- King Power Mahanakhon: Bangkok’s tallest tower features a panoramic observation deck with a glass walkway at 314 meters high!
- Patpong, a somewhat “hotter” area of the city known for its night market and clubs
- Lebua Sky Bar, where some scenes from the movie “The Hangover” were shot. To ensure a spot, you should book your table in advance by clicking here.
- Maggie Choo’s: an underground bar with live music, unique decor, and a very classy clientele.

Strong points: Domotized room, excellent aesthetics, special mention for the Peking duck in the Chinese restaurant, views. An excellent choice for a high-en stay in Thailand’s capital!
In Sukhumvit District
Sukhumvit district is a perfect blend between the Siam and Silom areas.
Here, you’ll find both shopping malls and trendy spots for nightlife in Bangkok. During the day, it remains a relatively”quiet” area (for Bangkok) with office and residential buildings.
Sukhumvit is also well-served by public transportation, but be aware that it starts to get a bit further away from the main attractions.
Things to do in Sukhumvit:
- Shopping at Terminal 21 and EmQuartier malls
- Stroll around Benchakitti Park
- Discover international (and Thai) cuisine in one of the many restaurants
- Walk along Sukhumvit Road, one of Bangkok’s main streets
- Enjoy a drink on a rooftop bar.
Where to stay in Sukhumvit (Bangkok)
- DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit: Located 1.5 km from Benchakitti Park. Double room 100 € per night, good breakfast for 18 €. Strong points: Excellent staff, swimming pool, spacious and clean. Definitely the best choice for its excellent value for money in Sukhumvit.

Strong points: Close to BTS station, excellent atmosphere, delicious breakfast and multiple restaurants. It’s my recommendation for a luxury stay in Sukhumvit district.
Along the Chao Phraya River Banks
On the banks of the Chao Phraya River, you can find some of Bangkok’s most luxurious hotels like the Mandarin Oriental, considered the city’s iconic hotel, as well as The Peninsula, The Millennium Hilton, The Four Seasons, and The Anantara.
Staying by the water allows you to enjoy an exceptional view of Bangkok’s temples, spectacular sunsets, and perhaps even embark on a dinner cruise to admire the illuminated city.
Make sure to book your cruise in advance by clicking the button below:
And it only takes a few minutes by boat to cross from one side of the river to the other and reach the historic center where Bangkok’s most famous temples are located: the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun.

Around Khao San Road
Maybe you’ve already heard about it, as Khao San Road is one of the most famous streets in the Thai capital.
Synonymous with a particularly vibrant nightlife, it has become an attraction in its own right.
A few years ago, it was primarily the meeting point for backpackers looking for really cheap accommodation.
Today, the street is frequented by all sorts of tourists and has become one of the most cosmopolitan places in the city, mostly featuring bars and restaurants where everyone meets in the evening for a drink.
As you can tell, it’s not exactly the quietest place to sleep!
However, you can quickly reach the historic center on foot and visit all the must-see temples.

In Rattanakosin District
Rattanakosin is Bangkok’s historic center. There, you will find 2 iconic places: the Grand Palace and Wat Pho.
You might wonder why I haven’t mentioned it earlier? In most cities, the historic center is usually one of the best places to stay.
But that’s not really the case in Bangkok. Indeed, this part of the city was only recently connected to the metro, and there aren’t many accommodations available yet.
If you want to stay close to Rattanakosin, I recommend instead to look for a hotel in the Khao San Road area or along the Chao Phraya River.
The best hotels in Rattanakosin (Bangkok)
- Villa De Pranakorn: Located 10 minutes from Wat Saket. Modern double rooms from 80€ per night, breakfast 14€. Strong points: Swimming pool, free well stocked mini bar, friendly staff, definitely an Oasis in the heart of Bangkok!
