Just click on the hotel’s name to view details and pricing:
- Where to stay in Barcelona to visit on foot: Catalonia Catedral – Right next to the cathedral, with a rooftop pool!
- Best Hotel in Barcelona for shopping: Sixtytwo Hotel, on the famous Passeig de Gràcia, lined with shops
- Best 5-star hotel in Barcelona: Hotel El Palace Barcelona
- Where to stay in Barcelona by the sea: W Barcelona, with direct beach access
- Best budget hotel in Barcelona: Kabul Party Hostel Barcelona
- Where to stay in Barcelona with family: Catalonia Plaza Catalunya
- Best place to stay in Barcelona for a romantic getaway: OHLA Barcelona
In the Gothic Quarter
The Barrio Gótico, along with the Born district, is part of the Ciutat Vella (Old Town in Catalan).
Here, the streets form a picturesque labyrinth of cobblestone alleys, where locals and tourists mingle: it’s a historic neighbourhood that’s also very lively and touristy, where you’ll find street musicians, art galleries, souvenir shops, and tapas bars.
This neighbourhood is ideal for relaxing with family or friends, in the little shaded squares in front of old churches that date back to the Middle Ages.
I recommend this neighbourhood for your stay in Barcelona:
- If you’re passionate about history
- To get lost in the maze of winding alleys
- If you’re looking for a lively place to party and stay out late
The neighbourhood is the perfect spot to discover:
- The Catedral de la Santa Creu, a magnificent Gothic cathedral that is the focal point of the area
- Barcelona’s historic squares where there’s always something happening: Plaça Sant Jaume, Plaça Reial, and Plaça del Rei.
- The MUHBA (the Museum of the History of Barcelona)
Here’s my selection of the best hotels in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona
The Catalonia Catedral – from 210€
The highlight of this 4-star hotel is its location: situated right next to the Barcelona Cathedral (100 m), in the heart of the city and just minutes from Las Ramblas and Jaume I metro station.
It also offers optimal comfort with spacious, elegant, and fully-equipped rooms (flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi connection, mini-bar, air conditioning…). Guests also have access to a small terrace with a pool as well as a terrace with a Japanese garden, perfect for relaxing away from the tourist crowds on warm days!
It’s the insider tip for where to stay in Barcelona city centre.
Ohla Barcelona – from 325€
Halfway between Plaça Catalunya and the Barcelona Cathedral, between the Gothic Quarter and the El Born district, and 200m from the Urquinanoa metro station, Ohla Barcelona boasts an ideal location.
It’s not only stunning from the outside (you’ll often see groups of tourists photographing its façade!), but the interior too. Equipped with a gym, a sauna, and a rooftop pool with an unrivalled view of the city, this hotel in Barcelona is definitely my top pick.
The buffet breakfast is included (with gluten-free options). Other quality dining options are available: Ohla Boutique bar with its delicious cocktails, or the 3 gourmet restaurants run by Chef Romain Fornell offering Catalan cuisine and tapas.
An excellent choice for where to stay in Barcelona for sightseeing!
Hotel DO Plaça Reial G.L. – from 400€
Hotel DO Plaça Reial G.L. is ideally located on one of Barcelona’s most beautiful squares, Plaça Reial, close to Las Ramblas (5 mins from La Boqueria market) and less than 20 minutes from the beach.
The establishment is luxurious: spa and sauna, rooftop pool, spacious and stylish rooms decorated in a modern style… The view from the rooms is splendid. Plus, a quality breakfast is included, featuring homemade bread, local organic cheeses, and chef-made dishes on request.
This is my recommendation for a luxury stay in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona!
It’s the ideal hotel to stay in Barcelona for sightseeing on foot.
In El Born district
Like the Gothic Quarter, El Born is a former neighbourhood that has become hip and touristy. Among the cobblestone alleys and picturesque streets, you’ll find numerous tapas bars open late into the night, always bustling. Highly sought-after for its proximity to the centre and the beach, this area has relatively high prices, and I recommend booking your hotel in Barcelona as early as possible.
However, be careful not to confuse Born with Gotico. The vibe is totally different. More authentic, less touristy, Born is a great compromise between the perpetual buzz of Gotico and the tranquillity of other districts. It’s a really nice neighbourhood to stay in Barcelona.
I advise you to stay in this neighbourhood if:
- You’re looking for a lively place
- You love the picturesque atmosphere of old medieval towns
- You want to try all kinds of tapas imaginable
Must-see places in the neighbourhood:
- The Santa María del Mar church
- The Picasso Museum
- The Palau de la Musica, which you can visit and also hosts concerts
- The Santa Catarina Market
- The Park of the Ciutadella, very popular with locals when the good weather comes

The best apartment choice in El Born district for complete independence!
It’s the ideal place to stay in Barcelona for a weekend or even 3 or 4 days.
In El Eixample District
Not without reason, Eixample means “expansion” in Catalan: El Eixample is the largest district of Barcelona, traditionally divided into two, Eixample Dret (Right Eixample) and Eixample Esquerra (Left Eixample), with Passeig de Gràcia considered as the dividing line.
The district is characterized by its grid-like streets and avenues and modernist architecture, featuring many Art Nouveau facades and the most famous works of Barcelona’s symbolic Spanish architect, Antoni Gaudí. A large district means a wide range of accommodations and varied rates!
So, you’ll be spoiled for choice if you’re looking to stay there.

It’s the hotel to stay at in Barcelona for a romantic getaway.
In Barceloneta District
Barceloneta is the beach district, ideal if you’re heading to Barcelona in the summer (and if you don’t mind the crowds!).
Once a fishing quarter, Barceloneta has lost none of its charm. Highly popular with tourists, especially in summer, the area boasts high prices. Aside from the beaches, there are few tourist sites in this zone, but it is situated close to Ciutat Vella.
I recommend this district:
- If you love seafood and want to try various Catalan specialties made with fish and shellfish
- If you’re in Barcelona during the summer
- To relax on the beach, whether in summer or winter
- For biking along the beaches, right up to the Forum
- For taking the cable car that leads to Montjuic hill
- To be close to the Old Town but in a calmer setting
You will discover in Barceloneta:
- The seafront and its paella restaurants

Undoubtedly the best place to sleep in Barcelona!
In Olympic Port District
The Olympic Port district was revamped for the 1992 Olympic Games, making it a modern and lively area. Tourists appreciate it for its seafood restaurants and the contrast it offers between modernity and tradition. Very lively, it is also very popular with the younger crowd, with numerous bars and nightclubs.
The Olympic Port district is ideal:
- For strolling along the port
- To savor a delicious paella with your feet in the water
- If you like going out and partying
- For sunbathing at the beach
In Olympic Port district, you can discover:

Once an industrial area undergoing renewal, Poble Nou is a mostly residential zone that’s very popular with tourists for its village atmosphere, tranquility, and location, close to both the sea and city center.
