In the Historic Center of Capri
The historic center of Capri is located on the east side of the island, up in the hills.
With its winding alleys and charming houses featuring colorful facades, it is the island’s most charming and most touristic town.
The old town is especially lively both during the day and at night, with plenty of luxury shops, restaurants, and trendy bars.
It’s also the best place to stay in Capri to easily access other parts of the island.
I recommend this village for your stay in Capri:
- For its picturesque atmosphere
- To dine in the island’s best restaurants
- To enjoy the nightlife
- For shopping
- For a romantic getaway
- To explore the island
The historic center of Capri is the ideal place to discover:
- Piazza Umberto, the small main square of Capri offering a superb viewpoint
- Luxury brands stores, such as Gucci and Louis Vuitton. Indeed, Capri is known for its bling-bling vibe!
- The Gardens of Augustus: a botanical garden famous for its breathtaking (and vertiginous!) view over the sea
- The funicular, which will take you to the beach in just a few minutes
Here is my selection of the best hotels in the village of Capri
- Marunnella Suites: Beautiful suites located 10 minutes walk from Piazza Umberto. Comfortable rooms, some overlooking the sea or a private garden from 250€ per night. Strong Points: optional motorcycle rental, very friendly hosts, well connected.
- Regina Cristina: Located just 2 minutes from the Piazzetta. Bright rooms with a neoclassical style from 270€ per night, breakfast included! Strong points: close to the shopping area, rich breakfast, luggage storage service, views. An excellent choice for a stay in the center of Capri!
- La Residenza Capri: Wonderful hotel overlooking the sea, located 5 minutes walk from the Gardens of Augustus. Modern double rooms from 435€ per night, breakfast included. Strong Points: kindness of the staff, great location, delicious breakfast.
- Hotel La Floridiana: This 5-star hotel is just a 3-minute walk from Via Camerelle. Stay in sober rooms from 580€, fabulous breakfast included. Strong Points: Thai massage, varied breakfast, beautiful views.
- Hotel Scalinatella: Next to the Piazzeta, this luxury hotel offers elegant rooms from 1020€, breakfast included! Strong Points: 2 swimming pools, airport transfers, panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea – The best hotel for a luxury stay in the village of Capri!
In Anacapri village
Anacapri is the island’s second town. Also located on higher ground, it occupies the entire western part of the island.
This village has managed to maintain a more authentic atmosphere than its neighbor.
Of course, you’ll find shops and restaurants, but in the evening it becomes much quieter than the old town.
This makes it a very pleasant place to stay in Capri, especially for a family holiday, for example!
And you’ll be just a ten-minute bus ride from the historic center of Capri.
Near Anacapri, you shouldn’t miss:
- The Church of San Michele, famous for its magnificent majolica floor (a kind of ceramic)
- Villa San Michele, built by the writer Axel Munthe. Its gardens offer a beautiful view of Capri and the peninsula
- Mount Solaro: You can hike to the top (600m high) or take the chairlift from Anacapri
- The Blue Grotto: accessible only by boat, it’s one of the island’s must-see attractions
- The Path of Forts, which allows you to walk along part of the coast while passing by the ruins of old forts
- The Belvedere della Migliara, with its viewpoint over the lighthouse and the Faraglioni rocks
- Punta Carena Lighthouse, regarded as one of the best spots to watch the sunset
Where to stay in the village of Anacapri?
- Hotel Senaria: Located a 10-minute walk from the Church of San Michele. Accommodation with classic Mediterranean decorations from 220€ per night, breakfast included. Strong Points: quiet atmosphere, close to the bus, great attention. I highly recommend this hotel for a family stay in Capri without spending too much.

Highlights: spa, 2 Michelin-starred restaurant, wine tastings at the property, beach club included. Undoubtedly the best luxury hotel in Anacapri!
Near the Beach: In Marina Grande and Marina Piccola
If you’re more looking for accommodations near the beach in Capri, you have two options: Marina Grande and Marina Piccola.
Marina Grande is the resort area where you’ll find the port of Capri, to the north of the island (you will arrive there by ferry).
It hosts the biggest and most beautiful sandy beach on the island.
From Marina Grande, you can take the funicular to quickly get to the historic center of Capri or opt for a stunning boat tour to explore the coves and sea caves.
Finally, you can also enjoy the bars and restaurants located along the quay.
As the name suggests, Marina Piccola is smaller than Marina Grande. Located in the south of the island, it has a tiny pebble beach only accessible by stairs, offering a gorgeous view of the turquoise sea and Capri’s Faraglioni rocks.
The setting is truly beautiful, but given the size of the place, you should really get there early if you hope to lay down your towel!
The most beautiful hotels next to Capri’s beaches
- La Terrazza sul Mare: Located a few steps from Marina Grande Beach, this cozy bed & breakfast offers simple but comfortable and well-appointed rooms from 190€, breakfast included! Strong Points: very good breakfast, sea views, good location. It’s the perfect place to stay in Marina Grande for a reasonable price.
- Palatium Mari: Located 10 minutes from Marina Grande Beach. Room from 200€ per night, breakfast included. Strong Points: close to bus and funicular, pool and garden.

- Weber Ambassador Hotel: This hotel built in the 1950s enjoys exclusive views overlooking the Marina Piccola and the Faraglioni. Stay in cozy double rooms from 250€ per night, breakfast 17€. Strong Points: various dining options, close to the beach, free transfer between the historical center and the hotel.
- VILLA OLGA LUXURY CAPRI: A 10-minute walk from the Marina Piccola, this luxury villa offers large, warm Mediterranean-style rooms from 400€, breakfast 30€. Strong Points: wonderful views, very hospitable, delicious breakfast, nice terrace. Another great choice for a romantic stay in Capri!
