In Centro district of Granada

The Centro district is the historic heart of Granada, spreading around Plaza Nueva and Plaza Santa Ana.

It’s a particularly vibrant area with its shopping streets, souvenir shops, and many tapas bars with terraces.

Here, you’ll find an authentic atmosphere mixing Spanish and Arabic influences, especially in the oriental tea rooms scattered through the alleys.

This is the best area to stay in Granada for a first-time visit.

I recommend staying in this district in Granada for:

• Enjoying the lively ambiance of the city
• Walking access to all the main tourist sites
• Discovering local cuisine in the numerous restaurants and tapas bars
• Shopping and browsing through stores.

This district is the perfect place to discover:

• The Granada Cathedral with its impressive architecture blending Gothic and Renaissance styles
• The Royal Chapel, the burial place of the Catholic Monarchs
• Plaza Bib-Rambla, a historic square surrounded by restaurants with terraces
• The Alcaiceria market, a former Arab souk with narrow alleyways
• The Royal Chancellery, a magnificent Renaissance building
• The basilica of San Juan de Dios, with many of its walls, pillars, and ceilings covered in gold
• The numerous traditional tapas bars, where you can taste the local cuisine.

Where to stay in the center of Granada

• Sercotel Palacio de los Gamboa: Located in the heart of the old town. Classic style double rooms from 95€, breakfast at 13€. Strong points: great location, extensive breakfast, private parking.
• Hotel Granada Center: Situated a 10-minute walk from the cathedral. Modern and tastefully decorated double rooms from 120€, breakfast at 14€. Strong points: quietness, location, cleanliness. It’s my top pick for great value for money in Granada!
• Vincci Albayzin: Located 700 meters from the cathedral. Comfortable double rooms with marble bathrooms from 160€, breakfast at 15€. Strong points: the ambiance, hearty and varied breakfast, perfect location for walking to sights.
• Áurea Catedral by Eurostars Hotel Company: This 5-star hotel is right opposite the cathedral. Spacious and very comfortable double rooms from 220€, breakfast at 20€. Strong points: super location, quality hospitality, and facilities. An excellent choice for a romantic stay in Granada!
• Palacio Gran Vía, a Royal Hideaway Hotel: This luxury hotel is right in the center of Granada. Stay in superb rooms with elegant and refined decor. From 380€, breakfast at 28€. Strong points: the beautiful spa with indoor pool, the rooftop with its view, exceptional staff, delicious breakfast. The finest luxury hotel to stay in Granada’s old town!

In the Alhambra District

The Alhambra is the most visited tourist site in Granada, and even in all of Spain!

A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Alhambra was built in the 13th century by Moorish rulers as a place of residence.

The palatial complex spans over 140,000 m² and includes several palaces, stunning gardens, and a fortress.

The Alhambra is located close to the old city but on higher ground. There are only 2 hotels nearby.

Where to Stay Near the Alhambra?

• Áurea Washington Irving by Eurostars Hotel Company: This 5-star hotel is a 3-minute walk from the Alhambra. It features rooms with contemporary and warm decoration from 250€, breakfast at 25€. Strong points: the pool, the excellent bedding, the great breakfast, and the view of the Alhambra. It’s my recommendation for a romantic weekend in Granada!
• Alhambra Palace Hotel: This magnificent luxury hotel is located within the Alhambra itself. You’ll stay in meticulously decorated rooms, inspired by Moorish style. Starting from 350€, breakfast at 28€. Strong points: the very friendly staff, the view of the city below, the decor. It’s the iconic luxury hotel to stay at when visiting the Alhambra in Granada!

In the Albaicín and Sacromonte Districts

The Albaicín and Sacromonte districts are the most authentic and picturesque in Granada.

These two historic neighborhoods are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The Albaicín, a former Arab quarter, is characterized by its narrow winding streets, its traditional white houses, and carmens (typical houses with gardens).

The Sacromonte, on the other hand, is famous for its cave dwellings carved into rock and its Gypsy heritage.

These neighborhoods offer the most beautiful views of the Alhambra, especially magical at sunset.

I recommend these districts for staying in Granada:

• For an authentic experience in a unique historic setting
• To enjoy the most beautiful views of the Alhambra and the city
• To discover Gypsy culture and traditional flamenco
• For a calmer stay while still being close to the center

These districts are the ideal place to discover:

• San Nicolas lookout, with its breathtaking view of the Alhambra
• Flamenco shows, in the caves of Sacromonte
• San Salvador Church, built on the old main mosque
• Sacromonte’s cave museum, to understand the troglodyte living style
• The numerous carmens with their traditional Andalusian gardens
• Plaza Larga and its lively local market
• Santa Isabel la Real Monastery and its Mudéjar architecture
• The Arab baths El Bañuelo, among the best-preserved in Spain.

Here are my recommendations for the best hotels in the Albaicín and Sacromonte districts

• Smart Suites Albaicin: Located at the edge of Albaicin and the old city. Modern and fully equipped apartments from 90€. Strong points: the location, the friendly staff with great advice, parking availability.
• Palacio de Santa Inés: This Mudéjar-style hotel dates back to the 16th century. Double rooms with some offering views of the Alhambra, starting from 130€, breakfast at 12€. Strong points: the charm of the hotel, comfort, located perfectly for exploring on foot.
• Casa Bombo: Located next to the San Nicolas lookout. Rooms with Alhambra views from 200€, breakfast included. Strong points: the terrace, the pool, and the excellent welcome. My favorite hotel in the Albaicín district!

Where to Stay in Granada on a Budget

If you’re on a tight budget, here’s a selection of affordable hotels to stay in Granada:

• Toc Hostel Granada: A hostel located in the historic center. Dorm bed from 30€, breakfast for 8€. The strong points are: cleanliness, organization, and friendly staff. A great budget-friendly option in Granada.
• Abadía Hotel: Situated in the center. Rustic but spacious Andalusian-style rooms from 65€. The strong points are: the patio, comfort, and cleanliness.
• Hotel Macià Plaza: Located on Plaza Nueva. Modern rooms from 75€, breakfast for 13€. The strong points are: great breakfast options, good bedding. Another good address for affordable accommodation in the center of Granada!
• Porcel Alixares: Located next to the Alhambra and 20 minutes walk from the city center. Comfortable double rooms from 90€, breakfast for 12€. The strong points are: outdoor pool, friendly staff, good breakfast, and nearby bus transport.

Staying in Granada with Family

• BiBo Suites Plaza Nueva: Located in the center of Granada. Studios and apartments with a kitchen and living area from 120€. The strong points are: tastefully decorated, close to restaurants and sites, very clean. I highly recommend this establishment for a family stay in Granada.
• BiBo Suites Oro del Darro: Located in the Albaicin district. Tastefully furnished apartment for four people from 120€. The strong points are: at the foot of the Alhambra, the view, excellently equipped.
• Gran Hotel Luna de Granada: Situated a 10-minute walk from the city center. Warm family rooms from 180€, breakfast for 16€. The strong points are: heated indoor pool + outdoor pool + spa with jacuzzi, parking, and very kind staff. One of the best places to stay with family in Granada!

If you are looking for the best hotel in Granada, I recommend you the Palacio Gran Vía, a Royal Hideaway Hotel.

And if you’re looking for something a little more affordable but still luxurious, you should book a night or more at Áurea Catedral by Eurostars Hotel Company.
