In the Old Montreal / Old Port District
The Old Montreal, dating back to the 17th century, is the historical center of the city.
Located along the Saint Lawrence River, it’s the city’s most picturesque and touristic area, with its cobbled streets, stone houses, and historic buildings.
It’s also a particularly lively spot, with plenty of great cafes and restaurants.
For me, it’s simply the best district to stay in Montreal.
I recommend this area for your stay in Montreal:
- To be close to all the main attractions
- For its picturesque and authentic ambiance
- To dine in the city’s best restaurants
- For a romantic stay
- To easily visit the rest of the city, thanks to the 3 metro stations located nearby.
Old Montreal is the perfect place to discover:
- The Pointe-à-Callière Museum, to learn about the city’s history. You should take the opportunity to try the museum’s restaurant, which offers a stunning view of the Old Port and the river.
- La Grande Roue de Montreal, where you can also enjoy a lovely panorama
- Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal
- The Clock Tower, located at the Old Port
- The Montreal Science Centre with its really well-done interactive exhibits
- New York Life Building: Built in 1888, it’s Montreal’s first skyscraper
- The City Hall: you should go there at night, to enjoy the light show on its facade
- Saint Jacques Street: the Montreal equivalent of Wall Street
- Place Jacques Cartier, perfect for sitting down to enjoy a drink on a terrace
- Bonsecours Market, with its luxury shops and temporary exhibitions.
- The longest urban zip-line in Canada. You need to book it by clicking here!
