In Spaccanapoli District (Historic Center)
Spaccanapoli, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the historic center of Naples.
On either side of Spaccanapoli street, you will find numerous monuments, palaces, fountains, and churches. The cobbled streets, small squares, and medieval architecture give this district an incredible charm.
It’s also a vibrant area for nightlife and a great place eat the world’s best pizza. You’ll be right in the middle of the buzzing city life!
For me, it’s the best area to stay in Naples.
I recommend this district for staying in Naples:
- If you want to be in the heart of the city while being able to easily reach other neighborhoods
- If you want to try the best restaurants and pizzerias in the city
- To be close to museums, palaces and all the major monuments.
The Spaccanapoli district is the ideal place to discover:
- Churches and palaces
- Piazza Bellini, surrounded by numerous cafés terraces
- The National Archaeological Museum of Naples: one of Italy‘s richest museums, where you can see one of the most important collections of Greco-Roman antiquities in the world (including relics from Pompeii)
- The Napoli Sotterranea: an 80-kilometer underground network made galleries carved into the volcanic rock.
Here is my selection of the best hotels in the center of Naples
- Palazzo Pignatelli: Located at the start of the historic center. Spacious double room with a balcony from 100€. Strong points: the bedding, the location, the host’s kindness.
- Toledo Boutique Rooms: Situated on the edge of the historic center, close to the Spanish quarter. Tastefully decorated double room from 150€. Strong points: the friendly and helpful staff, quietness, great location. It’s my favorite for its excellent value for money in Naples.
- MelRose Napoli: Located 1 km from the Archaeological Museum. Lovely room with balcony from 160€, breakfast included. Strong points: the excellent location, very good soundproofing, highly responsive staff. An excellent choice of accommodation in Naples’ old town!
- Maison des Fleurs: Located 900 meters from Cavour Square. Room with living area and dining area from 165€, breakfast included. Strong points: a very warm welcome, clean and comfortable, hotel situated in an old palace.
- Neapolis Lifestyle: Located a 3-minute walk from Piazza Bellini. Double room from 180€, breakfast included. Strong points: the perfect location for exploring Naples on foot, well-equipped, a kitchenette with coffee, biscuits, and water available.
In Spagnoli District
Spagnoli, which means “the Spanish Quarter”, is a popular neighborhood adjacent to Naples’ historic center.
Built in the 16th century, it got its name from the Spanish soldiers who settled there to suppress uprisings by the Neapolitans.
Although it once had a bad reputation, it has now been transformed into a welcoming and vibrant area.
It remains a modest but lively and commercial part of Naples, with numerous shops, cafes, pizzerias, and traditional trattorias that rank among the city’s best. Here, you can enjoy delicious meals without breaking the bank!
This neighborhood is ideal for your stay in Naples:
- To stay downtown without being in the historic center
- To experience the local life of Naples in an authentic neighborhood.
Must-see in Spagnoli:
- Castel Nuovo: an impressive medieval castle with five towers and a triumphal arch, offering a magnificent view of the city from its ramparts.
- Via Toledo, the main street of the neighborhood
- Largo Maradona, a mural dedicated to the famous footballer, where photos, jerseys, and flags are displayed
- Palazzo Zevallos which houses a fine collection of paintings.
- Palazzo Cattaneo-Barberini built in the 17th century.
Where to stay in the Spagnoli district, Naples?
- Le Corti del Re: Located next to the Fountain of Neptune. Clean, modern double rooms starting from €100, with breakfast included. Strong points: proximity to the metro, warm welcome, comfortable bedding. A great place to stay in Naples, and it’s not too expensive.
- Napoli Centro Suite e Spa: Situated in a historical building, 10 minutes on foot from Castel Nuovo. Double room with a small balcony starting from €140, with breakfast included. Strong points: perfect location to visit Naples, very friendly staff, a spa with a jacuzzi and sauna. It’s my favorite for its excellent value for money!
- Napolit’amo Hotel Principe: Located in a 16th-century building on Via Toledo. Renovated, spacious double rooms with high ceilings from €150, breakfast included. Strong points: the atmosphere, central location, comfortable bed.
- Soul Art Hotel: Just 20 meters from Via Toledo. Contemporary double room from €230, with a €12 breakfast option. Strong points: the friendly staff, tasty breakfast.
- Grand Hotel Oriente: Located at the heart of the Spanish Quarter. Stylish classic double rooms starting from €260, with breakfast included. Strong points: varied breakfast, kind staff, central location. My recommendation for a romantic getaway!
- Romeo Napoli: Perched on the edge of Spagnoli, right in front of the sea. This 5-star hotel offers nicely equipped rooms, some with sea views, starting at €680, with breakfast included. Strong points: heated rooftop pool, spa with an indoor pool and several jacuzzis, hearty breakfast with fresh products, Michelin-starred restaurant. It’s the perfect luxury hotel for a stay near the center of Naples!
In Chiaia District
Chiaia is part of the upscale neighborhoods to stay in Naples by the sea.
It’s a trendy district, where people come to enjoy the Italian dolce vita in an atmosphere that’s both chic and casual. It’s also one of the safest area to stay in Naples.
As Chiaia was once the aristocrats residential neighborhood, you will find there palaces, magnificent villas, designer studios, small art shops, and high-end cafes and restaurants.
The waterfront promenade overlooking the Mediterranean Sea is also very pleasant.
You will love this neighborhood:
- If you want to sleep peacefully, away from the bustle of central Naples
- To enjoy the sea air
- If you want to go out in the evening and dine in upscale restaurants.
Places to visit in the Chiaia district:
- The waterfront, by taking a stroll along Lungomare Caracciolo
- The panoramic view from the heights of Mergellina
- Villa Comunale: the largest green space in central Naples
- The underground tunnels of Galleria Borbonica.
Where to stay in Chiaia, Naples?
- Hotel Poerio 25 Boutique Stay: Located right next to the Villa Comunale park. Spacious and modern double room elegantly decorated from 120€. Strong points: the quiet district, superior bedding, very close to good restaurants. This is a great place to stay in Chiaia district!
- Prestige Rooms Chiaia: Next to the Palace of Arts. Comfortable rooms starting from 200€, breakfast for an extra 10€. Strong points: location in the upscale district, extremely welcoming staff, facilities.
- Palazzo Alabardieri: The hotel is located a 2-minute walk from the chic boutiques of Via Chiaia. Double rooms with classic, Italian-style decor from 260€. Strong points: the excellent buffet breakfast, top-quality bedding, tranquility, staff courtesy. The perfect hotel for a restful night’s sleep in Naples!
- Agra Suites: Situated 200 meters from the sea. Beautiful double rooms with meticulous decor from 275€, breakfast included. Strong points: exceptional comfort, incredibly helpful staff.
- Grand Hotel Parker’s: This 5-star hotel is located on the heights overlooking the entire Gulf of Naples. It offers rooms with balconies (some with sea views) and marble bathrooms from 450€, breakfast included. Strong points: enjoying an excellent breakfast with a view of Vesuvius, the extreme kindness of the staff, the rooftop bar, parking. The ultimate luxury hotel for a romantic getaway in Naples!
- The Britannique Hotel Naples, Curio Collection By Hilton: This luxury hotel is located just 5 minutes walk from the seafront promenade. Stay in gorgeous, stylish rooms with sleek decor from 480€, breakfast at 40€. Strong points: the meticulous design, the views from the rooftop. Another great option for a luxury stay in Chiaia district!
In Vomero district
Perched on the heights of Naples, the Vomero district is also a wealthy area, among the most upscale in Naples.
From up there, you will enjoy a wonderful view of the city center, with mount Vesuvius in the background.
Vomero is a mix of residential streets and popular areas. It’s the neighborhood for artists and party-goers, with a very lively nightlife.
You can easily reach the historic center of Naples by taking the funicular.
Not to miss in Vomero:
- Castel Sant’Elmo
- The Certosa San Martino, its magnificent gardens, and its art museum
- The Antignano market, open every morning from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
The Best Hotels to Stay in the Vomero District of Naples
- Chez Anna B&B – Adults only: Located 300 meters from a subway station and 2.5 km from the city center. Modern double rooms with newly renovated bathrooms starting from €115, breakfast included. Strong points: the hospitality of the hosts, the tranquil setting, the hearty breakfast. A great choice for its excellent value for money!
- Napoliseason Rooms and Breakfast: Located 5 minutes from the funicular. Comfortable double room starting from €130, breakfast included. Strong points: the host is very friendly and provides great advice, the quiet neighborhood.
- Hotel Cimarosa: Located next to the Certosa San Martino. Double room starting from €140, breakfast included. Strong points: the quality breakfast, the view over the Bay of Naples, very easy access.
- Relais Villa Montedonzelli: Located 2 km from Castel Sant’Elmo, you’ll stay in a beautiful mansion. Double room starting from €185, breakfast included. Strong points: the setting, close to everything but peaceful, the spacious rooms. It’s my top recommendation for a luxury stay in the Vomero district!
Where to Stay in Naples on a Budget
If you’re on a tighter budget, here’s a selection of affordable accommodations in Naples:
- Hostel of the Sun: This hostel is located right next to the port, on the edge of the Spagnoli district. Dorm bed starting from €30, breakfast included. Strong points: very clean, great atmosphere, excellent location. An amazing budget-friendly accommodation in Naples!
- Dimora Diamante: Located in the Chiaia district. Recently renovated double room starting from €75, breakfast included. Strong points: air conditioning (not always a given), the very pleasant neighborhood, the good breakfast.
- Art Suite nel Cuore di Napoli: Located next to Santa Chiara monumental complex, in the historical center. Modern and clean double room starting from €85. Strong points: large bed, location, friendly welcome. The best option for a cheap stay in the heart of Naples!
- Palazzo Doria d’Angri Suites: Located in Spagnoli, in a former palace. Double room starting from €90, breakfast for an additional €10. Strong points: the location, the charm of the place, the rooftop terrace for breakfast.
Staying in Naples with Family
- The Boutique Napoli Suites: Located in Spagnoli district. Triple or quadruple family room starting from €100. Strong points: clean, comfortable, close to everything. I strongly recommend this place for an affordable family stay in Naples.
- B&B Dint ‘o core e Napule: Located next to the train station. Room with a double bed and a bunk bed starting from €125, breakfast included.
- Suite Cuore Napoletano: Located in the historical center. Family room starting from €160. Strong points: location, comfort.
- Leone Suites Toledo: Also located in the Spagnoli district. Very spacious room for up to 4 people starting from €185. This family friendly hotel offers and excellent value for money!

If you’re looking for the best hotel in Naples, I can only recommend the Romeo Napoli.
For something a bit more affordable yet still in the luxury category, you should also consider booking a night or more at the Grand Hotel Parker’s or at the The Britannique Hotel Naples, Curio Collection By Hilton.
