In the Old Quebec District

As the name suggests, the Old Quebec district is the historic center of Quebec City.

This is where the city was founded by the French explorer Samuel de Champlain in the early 17th century, and this historical neighborhood is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

With its charming small squares, historic buildings, and pedestrian cobblestone streets, it’s the most picturesque area to stay in Quebec City.

While wandering in the old town, you’ll also discover plenty of lovely local boutiques and numerous restaurants.

• Hotel Clarendon: Located next to the Notre-Dame de Québec Cathedral. Double room with elegant decor starting from $290. Strong points: the very comfortable beds, the central location, the view from some rooms.
• Le Capitole Hotel: Located at the entrance of Old Quebec. Superbly decorated room starting from $320 per night. Strong points: the friendly staff, the superb location, the quality of service, the rooftop pool, the excellent breakfast. A fantastic hotel for a romantic weekend in Quebec!

In Other Districts of Quebec

Since Quebec City isn’t very big, you can also choose to stay in another district.

You’ll never be too far from the historic center, which you can reach on foot or by bus in just a few minutes (there is no subway or tramway in Quebec).

It’s worth noting that all other districts around Old Quebec are mainly residential, but they still offer plenty of restaurants and bars.

Attractions around Old Quebec:

• Quebec Parliament Building: a stunning building that houses the National Assembly of Quebec. You can visit the inside with a free tour.
• The Plains of Abraham, also known as the Battlefields Park, are highly symbolic for Quebec City. They were the backdrop for the famous battle of 1759 between the British and French empires.
• The Observatoire de la Capitale, where an elevator takes you exactly 221 meters above ground to enjoy a breathtaking view of the river, the citadel, the Plains of Abraham, and Île d’Orléans.
• The National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec
• Saint-Roch neighborhood, a trendy area, ideal if you want to go out at night and enjoy the nightlife
• The Aquarium of Quebec, showcasing nearly 10,000 marine animals, including seals and polar bears.

The Best Accommodations in Other Districts of Quebec

• Hôtel Le Bloc: Located 2 km from Old Quebec. Comfortable and warm double room starting from $160. Strong points: free parking, the city center is reachable on foot or by bus, close to good restaurants.

• Hilton Québec: Situated only a 5-minute walk from the Parliament and the entrance to Old Quebec. Contemporary and elegant double room with an amazing view of the river and the city, starting from $250, breakfast at $24. Strong points: the heated outdoor pool, the fabulous breakfast, the view. Where to Stay in Quebec City on a Budget

If you’re on a tighter budget, here’s a selection of affordable hotels to stay in Quebec City:

• QBEDS Hostel: A youth hostel located next to the Plains of Abraham and the Capital Observatory. Dorm beds from 30$ or double rooms from 90$. Strong points: very clean, great location, a cinema room, a gym. This is a great choice for budget accommodation in Quebec City.
• Auberge internationale de Québec: A youth hostel in Old Quebec. Dorm beds from 40$ or double rooms with shared bathroom from 110$, breakfast included. Strong points: the location, clean facilities.
• Petit Hôtel – Café Krieghoff: Located on Avenue Cartier, next to the Plains of Abraham. Double rooms from 110$, breakfast for an additional 10$. Strong points: lovely neighborhood, cleanliness, 15 minutes walk from Old Quebec.
• Hôtel Cofortel: Located 15 minutes by car from downtown. Modern double rooms, tastefully decorated from 120$, with breakfast included. Strong points: private parking, friendly staff, complete breakfast. Another good address for an affordable stay in Quebec City!

Where to Stay in Quebec City with Family

• LHotelQuébec: Located next to the Quebec Aquarium, this hotel designed for families features children’s activities, a swimming pool area, water slides, indoor play areas. It offers family rooms from 130$, with breakfast for an additional 17$. Strong points: all the entertainment especially for kids, room size, staff friendliness. If you are looking for the best hotel in Quebec City, I recommend you the Château Frontenac.

And if you’re looking for something a little more affordable but still luxurious, you shoud book a night or more at Le Capitole Hotel or at Hilton Québec.
