In Old Toronto / Downtown

Old Toronto is the central district of Toronto.

It’s the cultural, commercial, and financial area, boasting imposing modern buildings as well as more typical historic buildings, made of red bricks.

Particularly vibrant and lively at any time of day or night, it’s home to numerous shops, shopping centers, and plenty of restaurants.

It’s simply the best area to stay in downtown Toronto: you’ll be able to get around very easily by public transport or on foot to reach other neighborhoods and explore the city.

I recommend this district for your stay in Toronto:

  • Because it’s an excellent starting point to see the main tourist attractions
  • For shopping
  • If you’re looking for a lively place.

This neighborhood is the ideal place to discover:

  • The Old City Hall of Toronto, one of the city’s oldest buildings
  • The current City Hall, which is very modern
  • CN Tower: at 533 meters high, it once held the title of the world’s tallest tower, before being surpassed by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
  • St. Lawrence Market. Over 200 years old, this covered market is an authentic food market where you can find fresh fruits and vegetables, cheeses, bread, and of course, maple syrup. You can also eat on-site if you wish.
  • Union Station: notable for its architecture and interior
  • Dundas Square, the “Times Square” of Toronto
  • Eaton Centre, Toronto’s largest shopping mall
  • St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica of Toronto
  • Ripley’s Aquarium, the largest aquarium in Canada
  • The Art Gallery of Ontario: with its 90,000 objects, it’s one of the best art museums in North America
  • The Hockey Hall of Fame, paying homage to Canada’s favorite sport.
